About Mr Raj Das-Bhaumik

Consultant Eyelid Plastic Surgeon
Mr Das-Bhaumik trained extensively in the UK and has been practising as a consultant surgeon at the world famous Moorfields Eye Hospital since 2010. He started his surgical training in 1999.
On completion of his higher specialist surgical training, he under took fellowships in internationally recognised units in oculoplastic surgery and included training in aesthetic and cosmetic surgery, facial plastic surgery and, ear, nose and throat surgery. These units included Moorfields Eye Hospital, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and Maidstone Hospital. He has trained in tumour and reconstructive surgery and Mohs micrographic surgery in the US.
Mr Das-Bhaumik was previously head of the eyelid oncology service at Moorfields.
Mr Das-Bhaumik lectures nationally and internationally. He currently lectures at UCL, and is module lead for oculoplastic surgery on the internationally recognised MSc in Ophthalmology. He also lectures at Barts and The Royal London Hospital and is the lead for physician associate training for Queen Mary University and previous Training Director of the emergency service at Moorfields. He has a total of 18 years experience as an educator.
Mr Das-Bhaumik has undertaken a vast amount of research work that focuses on reconstructive and cosmetic surgery, and stem cells in facial and periocular reconstruction. He has many publications in various peer reviewed scientific and medical journals. He has also co-authored two volumes of an interactive manual on plastic surgery, available on the Apple Store.
Mr Das-Bhaumik has participated with charitable organisations such as “Facing the World” and joined a multidisciplinary team as ophthalmologist and oculoplastic surgeon to operate on and manage cases in Vietnam in 2010. He lectured surgeons and medical staff, co-ordinated an oculoplastics theatre and performed operations as well as teaching in theatre and outpatients. He is on the board of trustee of the Moorfields Korle Bu Trust Hospital in Ghana, where he is currently involved in curriculum development for the West Africa College of Surgeons to help teach surgeons how to teach surgery to other surgeons.
Clinical Interests
Mr Das-Bhaumik is an ophthalmic plastic surgeon (oculoplastic surgeon), with extensive experience in ophthalmology, cosmetic surgery and ophthalmic, plastic and reconstructive surgery. He is an expert in blepharoplasty and trains surgeons from around the world in advanced surgical techniques in a structured fellowship programme at the world famous Moorfields Eye Hospital, where he has been a consultant ophthalmic plastic surgeon since 2010. He is also the chair of the Arts Committee and chair of the Moorfields Academy
Oculoplastic /Cosmetic Eye and Eyelid Surgery Interests:
Mr Das-Bhaumik specialises in eyelid plastic surgery including:
- cosmetic blepharoplasty - scarless eyebag removal and upper eyelid hooding surgery
- ptosis (fixing droopy lids)
- entropion and ectropion (inturning and out turning lids)
- lid lumps and bumps (including chalazion)
- tumour removal
- reconstructive surgery
- correction of poor outcomes of surgery performed elsewhere
General Ophthalmology Interests:
Mr Das-Bhaumik will see general ophthalmology conditions but stopped laser and cataract surgery in 2010 to concentrate on plastic surgery of the eyes and midface.
Mr Das-Bhaumik will see patients from 5 years old.
